    Golden Square, Aberdeen

    A building with a past.
    A restaurant with a future.

The story of Hammerman's — and the corner of Aberdeen that made it.

    Our Story

Golden Square was built by the people we're named after.

In the early nineteenth century, Aberdeen was growing fast — and the craftsmen leading the charge were the Hammermen. The most senior of Aberdeen's Seven Incorporated Trades, they represented every craft that needed a hammer: blacksmiths, goldsmiths, silversmiths, clockmakers, armourers, locksmiths.

Between 1810 and 1821, they developed the land to the west of the Denburn and laid out Golden Square — a planned Georgian space designed to be the finest address in Aberdeen. The streets around it carry their legacy: Crown Street. Silver Street. Diamond Lane. The square itself was described as an apple of gold in a basket of silver.

    Inside Hammerman's

    Good food. Nice drinks.
A proper reason to come out.

The Clark family — Ryan, Darren and Brian — who also run The Atrium on Chapel Street, were clear from the beginning about what Hammerman's needed to be: a hybrid venue that does everything well. Great Scottish small plates from a kitchen led by Executive Chef Ryan Pirie, Head Chef Matthew Stewart and Senior Sous Chef Adam Stewart. A cocktail programme that earns its reputation. Live entertainment and events that give Aberdeen something genuinely new.

The building at 1 Golden Square has seen many lives — and this one suits it best. Step through the grand archway entrance and you'll find a room that manages to feel grand and intimate at the same time. Two cherry blossom trees stand as centrepieces. Dark, considered tones. Warm lighting. It's also a stunning setting for private events and celebrations.

"You have to give them a reason."

    — Ryan Clark, Co-owner
